Welcome to Schools and Organizations for the Deaf in Africa!

Sophie cooking ugali (a Kenyan dish).
Sophie is 19 years old and attends culinary school.  Next year, when she graduates, Sophie hopes to get a job in a restaurant as a chef.  She is a skilled cook and enjoys making a variety of tasty dishes from all over the world!  Sophie is deaf and uses Kenyan Sign Language to communicate with her classmates and teachers at the school for the deaf she attends in Karen, Kenya.  Before culinary school, Sophie attended primary and secondary schools for the deaf.
Like Sophie, other children who are deaf in Africa have the right and ability to attend school.  Although many of these children desire to attend school, information about the location of these schools is not common knowledge.  In an attempt to inform the general population about resources that are available to children who are deaf, this website lists schools for the deaf and sign languages used in many African countries.  This website also provides information about hearing loss such as reasons and causes of hearing loss.

Thanks for visiting!
